What Does The Most Wanted EDP Intense Actually Smell Like?
Azzaro has been on a run lately with the Wanted line, and The Most Wanted EDP Intense is their attempt at making the ultimate cold weather banger from the series. Did they pull it off? Mostly, yeah.
Right out of the gate, you're hit with this bold, sweet, and slightly tart opening. There's a strong iris note paired with something almost fruity — like a dark, candied quality. Some people compare the opening to bubblegum, and honestly, I can see it. There's a synthetic sweetness upfront that either hooks you or makes you go "this is too much" in the first five seconds.
The heart is where it gets good. A thick, creamy blend of tonka bean, amber, and what smells like salted caramel or toffee. It's gourmand territory for sure, but there's a woody backbone underneath — some cedar and vetiver that prevent it from being a pure dessert scent. The iris sticks around too, adding a slightly powdery, almost lipstick-like quality that makes it smell more refined than it has any right to be.
The drydown is warm, sweet, and very smooth. Vanilla, benzoin, and soft woods carry it to the end. It's the kind of scent that stays close to your skin in the later hours and smells like warm, sweet comfort. Think of it as a warm blanket in fragrance form.
How Does It Perform?
This is where The Most Wanted Intense really earns its name:
- Longevity: 8-10+ hours easily. This thing sticks around.
- Projection: Strong for the first 3-4 hours. People around you will know.
- Sillage: Leaves a trail for the first few hours. Beast mode territory early on.
Performance is one of the strongest selling points here. For a designer fragrance, this punches way above its weight class. You don't need many sprays — 3-4 is plenty. Go past that and you're weaponizing the sweetness.
When Should You Wear It?
This is a fall/winter exclusive. No debate:
- Cold weather nights out — clubs, bars, parties
- Date nights when you want to make a statement
- Winter events and holiday parties
- Any time you want to be the best-smelling person in the room
Keep it away from warm weather completely. The sweetness becomes cloying and headache-inducing above 65°F. And I'd be cautious about wearing it to work — it's loud and very sweet, which isn't everyone's idea of office-appropriate.
The Real Downsides — Let's Be Honest
- The sweetness is AGGRESSIVE. This is not for the faint of heart. If you're not into gourmand/sweet fragrances, this will be way too much. Even people who like sweet scents sometimes find this crosses the line.
- The opening is synthetic. That bubblegum-ish, candied iris opening smells noticeably synthetic to trained noses. It takes about 20-30 minutes for the scent to settle into its best phase. The opening is its weakest moment.
- Zero versatility. Cold weather evenings only. That's maybe 3-4 months of actual use per year. Your cost-per-wear is going to be rough unless you wear it often during those months.
- It's linear after the drydown. Once it settles (around hour 2-3), it doesn't evolve much. What you get at hour 3 is basically what you get at hour 8. Some people find that boring.
- Compliment-bait territory. This fragrance was designed to get reactions, and it feels like it. There's nothing subtle or artistic about it. If you value depth and complexity in your fragrances, this might feel shallow.
- The bottle looks like a gold grenade. Aesthetic preference here, but it's loud and flashy. Not for the minimalist crowd.
Should You Buy or Skip?
Buy if: You want a beast-mode sweet fragrance for cold weather going out. If you're the type who loves getting compliments and wants something with serious projection, this is your weapon. The performance alone makes it worth considering.
Skip if: You already own The Most Wanted Parfum, Stronger With You Intensely, or any other heavy gourmand winter fragrance. The overlap in your collection would be massive. Also skip if sweetness isn't your thing — no amount of time will make this work for you.
Rating: 7.5/10
Azzaro The Most Wanted EDP Intense is a well-executed sweet gourmand with monster performance. It does exactly what it's designed to do — turn heads in cold weather. But the synthetic opening, lack of versatility, and aggressive sweetness hold it back from greatness. If you need a winter compliment-getter, it delivers. Just don't expect anything more than that.
