DKNY Be Delicious, with that iconic green apple bottle, was THE fragrance for so many women in the 2000s. It was fresh, modern, and smelled like New York City in the best possible way. But now it's 2026 — is the apple still crisp, or has it started to brown?
What Does It Smell Like?
You already know the answer: apple. The opening is a bright, juicy, almost sparkling green apple mixed with grapefruit and a cucumber-like freshness. It's crisp, clean, and instantly recognizable. If someone sprayed this in a room, at least three people would say "oh, Be Delicious!"
The heart introduces some florals — magnolia, rose, and lily of the valley — that soften the fruitiness into something more rounded. The apple is still there, but it's joined by this pretty, slightly musky floral bouquet. It feels very "walking through Central Park on a perfect April morning."
The dry down is clean musks, soft amber, and a hint of sandalwood. It's pleasant but not exactly complex. The whole thing dries down to a nice, clean, "fresh out of the shower" vibe that fades gracefully.
Performance
This is where Be Delicious falters. We're talking 4-5 hours max on most skin types, with moderate projection for maybe the first 2 hours. After that, it becomes a very soft skin scent that you'll barely notice yourself.
For an EDP, that's disappointing. The reformulations over the years haven't been kind to the performance. The original was stronger. Modern bottles just don't have the same punch.
When Should You Wear It?
Spring and summer, daytime, casual situations. Office, brunch, errands, casual dates — anywhere you want to smell fresh and approachable. Be Delicious is the definition of an easy, inoffensive fragrance. Nobody will ever complain about it.
It works across ages, too. Teens to 50s can all pull this off because it's just... pleasant. Not challenging, not avant-garde, just pleasant.
The Downsides
The longevity is genuinely frustrating. A 4-hour EDP in 2026 is hard to justify, especially when there are plenty of fresh fragrances that last twice as long for less money.
It's also become a bit of a cliché. Be Delicious is SO recognizable that wearing it doesn't feel special anymore. Everyone and their mother has smelled this. If you want to stand out, this is probably the worst choice you could make.
The scent itself, while pleasant, is relatively simple. There's not a lot of development or depth here. You get apple, you get flowers, you get musk. That's it. For some people, that simplicity is a feature. For others, it's boring.
Buy or Skip?
If you're nostalgic for it, or if you've never tried it and want a safe, universally liked fresh fragrance — grab it. It's affordable and it smells nice. Simple as that.
If you're looking for something that'll last all day, stand out from the crowd, or offer any kind of complexity — skip. Be Delicious has been outpaced by newer releases that do the fresh-fruity thing better and longer.
Rating: 6/10
An iconic fragrance that's been hurt by reformulations and the passage of time. The scent is still pleasant, but the performance doesn't keep up with 2026 standards. Good for nostalgia, not great for anything else.
