Dolce & Gabbana Devotion EDP Review — The Candied Lemon Scent That Women Are Obsessed With

Dolce & Gabbana Devotion EDP

Dolce & Gabbana Devotion came out and immediately got attention for being different from pretty much everything else in the designer space. A candied lemon gourmand? From D&G? It was unexpected, and honestly, it paid off. This has become one of the most talked-about women's fragrances in recent memory. But is it actually that good, or is it just hype? Let's dig in.

What Does D&G Devotion Smell Like?

The opening is a straight-up candied lemon shortbread cookie. I know that sounds wild, but that's exactly what it is. You get this bright, zesty lemon on top, but it's coated in sugar and sitting on a buttery pastry base. It's like someone took a lemon meringue pie and turned it into a perfume.

As it develops, the lemon softens and a warm, powdery vanilla comes through. There's also an orange blossom note working in the middle that adds a slight floral creaminess to the whole thing. It rounds out the citrus-gourmand combo and keeps it from being a one-note lemon candy.

The dry down is all warm vanilla and soft musk with the faintest whisper of that candied lemon still hanging around. It becomes very skin-like and cozy — the kind of scent where people want to bury their face in your neck. In the best way possible.

Performance — How Long Does It Last?

  • Longevity: 6-8 hours on skin
  • Projection: Moderate — noticeable without being overbearing
  • Sillage: Leaves a nice trail for the first 2-3 hours

Performance is solid for a designer EDP. You're getting a full workday out of this, and the projection is just right — people around you will notice, but you won't clear a room. It performs best in cooler weather, where the warmth of the vanilla base really comes alive.

When to Wear It

  • Fall and winter are where this shines brightest
  • Date nights — this is a compliment magnet
  • Casual outings, shopping trips, brunch
  • Office-appropriate if you go easy on sprays
  • Holiday season — it has that festive, baked goods vibe

Spring works too if it's still cool outside. Summer is the only season where I'd say skip it — the sweetness can get heavy in heat.

The Real Downsides

  • It's a gourmand, and that's not for everyone. If you don't like smelling like food, Devotion is going to annoy you. The pastry/cookie vibe is strong and there's no getting around it.
  • The lemon note can be polarizing. Some people find the candied lemon opening to be too synthetic or too sweet. It's not a natural citrus — it's very much processed, candy-like lemon.
  • It's not unique anymore. When Devotion dropped, the candied lemon thing was fresh. Now there are dupes and similar scents everywhere. The novelty has worn off.
  • The bottle is pretty but impractical. That heart-shaped design with the crucifix chain looks great on a vanity but doesn't travel well at all.
  • Longevity could be better for the price. 6-8 hours is fine, but some competitors in this price range last longer.

Buy or Skip?

D&G Devotion is a genuinely fun, well-made gourmand that deserves most of the hype it gets. The candied lemon-vanilla combo is addictive, and it's one of those fragrances that gets you compliments without even trying. If you're into sweet, food-inspired scents, this is one of the best in the designer space right now.

Skip it if you hate gourmands, if you find sweet lemon notes cloying, or if you're looking for something more serious and complex. This is playful and youthful, and it owns that lane completely.

Rating: 8/10

A standout designer gourmand that nailed the candied lemon trend before it became a trend. Fun, wearable, and a guaranteed compliment-getter. Minor dings for performance and the novelty wearing off, but still an excellent buy.
