Ariana Grande Cloud EDP Review — The Viral Scent That Deserves Every Bit of Hype

What Does Cloud Actually Smell Like?

Cloud by Ariana Grande is one of those fragrances that became a phenomenon, and for once, the hype is actually justified. This is a dreamy, sweet, musky scent that smells like what a cloud would smell like if clouds smelled amazing. It's often compared to Baccarat Rouge 540 by MFK (which costs 5-6x more), and while that comparison is a stretch, there are definitely similarities in the DNA.

The opening is a bright, bubbly mix of lavender blossom, juicy pear, and bergamot. It's immediately pleasant — sweet but not sugary, fresh but not sharp. There's an airy quality to it that's hard to describe but easy to fall in love with. The lavender here isn't the medicinal, sleep-aid kind — it's soft and slightly sweet.

The heart is where Cloud gets its magic. Coconut, praline, and a fluffy vanilla create this dreamy, almost edible quality. It smells like the world's most delicious dessert, but worn as a perfume. There's a light floral undertone (jasmine and cashmere woods) that keeps it from being a straight gourmand. The base is a warm, clean musk with blonde woods that gives it an intimate, skin-like finish.

How Does It Perform?

  • Longevity: 6-8 hours on skin, sometimes longer on clothes
  • Projection: Moderate — it projects nicely for 2-3 hours before settling
  • Sillage: Moderate — you'll leave a pleasant trail without being overwhelming

For a celebrity fragrance at this price, the performance is genuinely impressive. It punches well above its weight class and competes with fragrances costing 3-4x as much. This is probably the best-performing celebrity fragrance on the market.

When Should You Wear It?

  • Literally anywhere, honestly
  • Daily wear — office, school, errands
  • Date nights
  • Fall and winter (the warmth really comes alive)
  • Spring days when you want something cozy
  • Layered with other scents for added depth

Cloud is one of the most versatile fragrances at any price point. It works in nearly every situation and every season, though it's at its absolute best in cooler weather when the warmth of the base notes really blooms.

The Honest Downsides

  • EVERYONE has it. Cloud is one of the best-selling fragrances in the world. If you wear this, there's a real chance someone at the party has the same scent on. If you want to smell unique, this isn't it.
  • The Baccarat Rouge comparison is misleading. People who buy Cloud expecting BR540 will be disappointed. They share some DNA (that sweet, musky, ambroxan quality), but Cloud is a much simpler, lighter fragrance. It's great on its own merits — just don't buy it as a "dupe."
  • Can lean juvenile. On some skin, Cloud reads very young and sweet. If you're in your 30s+ and going for a mature vibe, this might not feel age-appropriate for professional settings.
  • Summer heat amplifies the sweetness. In hot weather, Cloud can get saccharine and a bit much. It's better in moderate to cool temperatures.

Should You Buy or Skip?

Buy. Seriously, just buy it. At this price point, there is almost nothing that comes close to Cloud's quality, performance, and wearability. Whether you're building your first collection or your fiftieth, Cloud deserves a spot. It's the rare celebrity fragrance that transcends its category.

The only reason to skip is if you already own it (or one of the flankers) and want something different. Or if you truly hate sweet fragrances — in that case, this isn't for you.

Rating: 8.5/10

Cloud is a masterclass in how to make a celebrity fragrance. It smells expensive, performs well, works everywhere, and costs a fraction of what comparable scents go for. The ubiquity is its only real weakness. If this was a $200 niche fragrance, people would rave about it even more. At its actual price, it's one of the best deals in fragrance, period.
