Burberry Hero Parfum Intense Review — Does Turning It Up to 11 Actually Work?

What Does Burberry Hero Parfum Intense Smell Like?

So Burberry went and made the Hero Parfum... more intense. Creative naming aside, the question is whether this actually brings something new to the table or if it's just the Parfum with a louder speaker. Spoiler: it's somewhere in between.

The opening is noticeably darker than the regular Parfum. You're getting that cedarwood backbone, but now it's wrapped in this deep, almost smoky oud-like quality. There's a boozy sweetness in the first few minutes — like someone spilled cognac on a cedar plank. Black pepper is dialed up too, giving it more of a spicy kick.

The heart goes full dark mode. Rich amber, labdanum, and what smells like leather come together to create this thick, warm blanket of scent. The cedar is still there but it's playing backup now — the resins and amber are running the show.

In the dry down, you get this incredible smooth combo of sandalwood, vanilla-tinged musk, and that persistent amber. It's the creamiest version of Hero by far, almost gourmand-adjacent without actually being sweet. It's like the regular Parfum put on a leather jacket and went to a speakeasy.

How Does It Perform?

  • Longevity: 10-12 hours. This thing is a tank
  • Projection: Strong for 4-5 hours, then a solid moderate bubble
  • Sillage: You're leaving trails. This projects hard, especially in the first half of its life

Performance is genuinely excellent. If the regular Parfum was a step up from the EDP, the Intense is another leap. This is the performance king of the Hero line without question.

When Should You Wear It?

  • Cold weather ONLY. This is made for fall and winter. Don't even think about wearing it in summer
  • Night time events — This is a going-out fragrance through and through
  • Date nights in the cold months — Absolute weapon for close encounters
  • Special occasions — This has enough presence to feel occasion-worthy

This is NOT an office scent. It's NOT a casual daytime scent. If you wear 4+ sprays of this to work, your coworkers will have opinions.

The Real Downsides

  • Very limited versatility. This is a cold weather, nighttime fragrance. Period. That limits how much you'll actually reach for it throughout the year.
  • Too similar to the Parfum for some. If you squint, it's the same fragrance turned up. Some people won't feel like the difference justifies owning both.
  • Can be cloying if over-sprayed. 2-3 sprays is the sweet spot. Go beyond that and you're gassing people out. The projection is strong enough that you don't need to bathe in it.
  • Flanker fatigue is real. Hero EDT, EDP, Parfum, and now Intense? At some point you have to wonder if Burberry is milking this horse (pun intended).
  • Price premium over the Parfum — The jump in price is noticeable for what amounts to a darker, stronger version of the same thing.

Should You Buy or Skip?

If you're a cold-weather fragrance lover who wants something dark, woody, and powerful — Hero Parfum Intense is really solid. It fills a specific role in your collection and fills it well.

But here's my honest take: for most people, the regular Parfum is the better buy. It's more versatile, nearly as good, and won't sit unused for 6 months of the year. The Intense is for the person who already owns the Parfum and wants a heavier option for winter nights.

If you're new to the Hero line, start with the Parfum. If you're a Hero superfan who wants every version — the Intense won't disappoint, but it's a luxury, not a necessity.

Rating: 7/10

A well-made intense flanker that does its job, but the limited versatility and overlap with the regular Parfum keep it from being essential. Great scent, questionable value proposition.
