Celebrity fragrances have a bad reputation, and let's be honest — most of the time it's deserved. Some pop star slaps their name on a generic sweet juice, charges $50, and calls it a day. So when Drake dropped Better World Fragrance House with Summer Mink, my expectations were exactly on the floor.
And then I actually smelled it.
What Does Summer Mink Smell Like?
Okay, so the name "Summer Mink" tells you almost nothing, but the fragrance itself is a surprisingly sophisticated warm-weather scent. The opening is this bright, juicy tropical fruit blend — think mango, passionfruit, with a slight citrus twist. It's fun and playful right off the bat.
But here's where it gets interesting. Instead of staying fruity and shallow like most celebrity fragrances, Summer Mink develops into this smooth, creamy, slightly musky mid-section. There's a soft floral element — something like jasmine or ylang-ylang — that adds a touch of elegance without taking it into full "floral fragrance" territory.
The dry down settles into a clean, slightly sweet musk with hints of coconut and vanilla. It's not a dessert scent. It's more like... coming home from the beach after a perfect day, freshly showered, with that warm, sun-kissed skin thing going on. It's effortlessly cool.
Performance — How Long Does It Last?
Here's the thing — performance is decent but not amazing. You're looking at about 5-7 hours total, with moderate projection for the first 2-3 hours. This is a fragrance that sits close to the skin and creates a personal bubble rather than announcing itself to a room.
For a summer scent, that's actually fine. You don't want tropical fragrances projecting like crazy in hot weather anyway. But if you're someone who expects beast mode from everything, temper your expectations.
When Should You Wear This?
Summer. That's literally in the name, and they nailed it. This is a pool party, beach day, summer brunch, rooftop bar kind of fragrance. It radiates warm-weather energy and good vibes.
Can you wear it outside of summer? You could in spring, but once fall and winter hit, this is going to feel out of place. It's a seasonal player, and there's nothing wrong with that as long as you're aware of it going in.
The Downsides — Keeping It Real
First, longevity could be better. Five hours is on the lower end, and for the price point, it'd be nice to get a couple more hours of performance. You'll want to bring this along for reapplication on longer days.
Second, it's not particularly unique. If you've smelled other tropical-musk summer fragrances, Summer Mink occupies similar territory. It does it well, but it's not reinventing anything. You could argue that Replica Beach Walk or even some Bath & Body Works sprays give you a similar vibe at a lower price.
Third — the Drake factor. Some people are going to dismiss this purely because it's a celebrity fragrance, and that's a shame. Others might overhype it purely because it's Drake. Try to evaluate it on its own merits.
Buy or Skip?
Buy if you're looking for a fun, easy-to-wear summer fragrance that smells genuinely good and well-crafted for its category. This isn't cheap celebrity juice — someone actually put thought into the composition.
Skip if you want beast mode performance or something that works year-round. This is a warm-weather specialist with decent but not impressive longevity.
Rating: 7/10
Summer Mink exceeded my expectations for a celebrity fragrance. It's well-composed, genuinely enjoyable, and perfect for its intended season. It's not going to rewrite fragrance history, but it's a solid addition to any warm-weather rotation.
