First Impressions
God of Fire by Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777. Just say that name out loud. It sounds like a final boss in a video game, and honestly, that energy is exactly what this fragrance delivers. SHL 777 is one of the most slept-on niche houses in the game, and God of Fire might be their crowning achievement.
First spray: holy. This fragrance hits you like a wall of smoky, resinous, oud-laced intensity. It's not subtle, it's not polite, and it absolutely does not care if you're ready for it. If fragrances had personalities, God of Fire would be that guy who walks into a room and everyone just... stops talking. It's commanding in a way that very few fragrances manage to be.
What Does It Smell Like?
The opening is a powerful blast of oud and incense layered with dark, resinous notes. There's a distinct smokiness here — not campfire smoke, but something richer, like high-quality tobacco being burned in a sacred temple. You also get a flash of saffron that adds this golden, warm spiciness to the top.
As the mid-notes develop, leather and dark woods come into play. The leather note in God of Fire is exceptional — it's smooth, aged, almost like the smell of a vintage leather armchair in a private library. There's also a subtle sweetness, almost like burnt caramel or dark honey, that weaves through the composition and keeps it from being purely aggressive.
The dry down is where this fragrance earns its name. Amber, musk, and oud create this warm, glowing base that genuinely feels like embers from a dying fire. It's deep, it's rich, and it sits on the skin like a warm blanket of smoke and wood. After 6-7 hours, it becomes this incredibly intimate, skin-hugging scent that's almost addictive.
Performance
This is a BEAST. We're talking 10-14+ hours of longevity on skin, with nuclear projection for the first 3-4 hours. Two sprays of God of Fire will announce your presence before you even walk into a room. On clothes, this thing is essentially permanent — you'll smell it after washing.
I cannot stress this enough: DO NOT OVERSPRAY. Two sprays maximum. One on the chest, one on the back of the neck. That's it. I made the mistake of doing four sprays once and I could smell myself all day to the point of getting a headache. This fragrance is concentrated power, and it needs to be treated with respect.
When to Wear It
Fall and winter only. This is not a warm-weather fragrance. The ideal temperature range is 30-55°F — cold enough that the fragrance needs to work to project, which tames its power to a more enjoyable level.
Evening events are the sweet spot. Dinner parties, upscale lounges, cold-weather date nights, special occasions where you want to make a statement. God of Fire is NOT an office fragrance. It's NOT a casual hangout fragrance. It's a special-occasion weapon that you deploy strategically.
This leans masculine, but I've seen reviews from women who wear it and love it. If you're confident, gender doesn't matter with this one.
The Downsides
First, the price. SHL 777 fragrances are niche-priced, and God of Fire is no exception. The bottle is only 50mL too, so your cost-per-mL is steep. For some people, that's a dealbreaker.
Second, the versatility is almost nonexistent. You can wear this maybe 2-3 months of the year, and even then, only for evening occasions. If you calculate the cost-per-wear, this becomes an expensive habit.
Third, it can be overwhelming. If you or the people around you are sensitive to strong fragrances, God of Fire might be too much. The oud and incense combo is intense, and not everyone is into that. You need to know your audience.
Fourth, it's hard to find. SHL 777 isn't carried in most department stores, and testing it in person can be a challenge. You might have to blind buy based on reviews, which is always a risk with something this intense and niche.
Buy or Skip?
If you love dark, intense, oud-forward fragrances and you want something that feels truly special, God of Fire is a masterpiece. It's the kind of fragrance that people remember. It's what you wear when you want to leave an impression that lasts longer than the conversation.
If you prefer versatile, crowd-pleasing fragrances, this is the wrong choice entirely. Sample first, always.
Rating: 8.5/10
An outstanding niche fragrance that delivers power, depth, and quality in a way that very few fragrances can match. The limited versatility and high price keep it from a perfect score, but in its lane, God of Fire is nearly untouchable.
