JPG Scandal Pour Homme Review — The Caramel Bomb That Divides Everyone

Scandal Pour Homme EDT by Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier's Scandal Pour Homme EDT dropped and immediately caused exactly what the name promised — scandal. People either love this thing or they absolutely cannot stand it. The caramel note in this is LOUD, and it's the reason for both the hype and the hate. Let's get into it.

What Does Scandal Pour Homme Smell Like?

You know that smell when you walk past a candy shop or a carnival stand making caramel apples? That's your opening. Scandal Pour Homme hits you with an immediate blast of sweet, buttery caramel paired with a fresh, slightly herbal note that keeps it from being a straight-up dessert. There's some lemon in the top that tries to add freshness, and honestly, it works — for about 10 minutes.

The heart is where things get interesting. The caramel sticks around (it never leaves, actually), but it's joined by a leather note and some woods that add a masculine backbone. There's a subtle vetiver and cedar combo that grounds the sweetness and prevents it from going full candy store.

The dry down is caramel, caramel, and more caramel with a warm woody base. If you don't like caramel... you already know this isn't for you. If you DO like caramel, you'll be huffing your wrist all day.

Performance — Beast Mode Alert

This thing PROJECTS. Scandal Pour Homme is not a subtle fragrance. You'll get 4-5 hours of strong projection with people picking up on it from several feet away. Total longevity is around 7-9 hours, with the last few hours being a pleasant skin scent.

On clothes, it's basically permanent. I've sprayed it on a jacket and smelled it a week later. For an EDT, the performance is incredibly impressive. JPG didn't hold back on this one.

When to Wear This

Fall and winter evenings are the sweet spot (pun intended). This is a going-out fragrance — clubs, bars, house parties, casual date nights. The sweetness and projection make it a real attention-grabber in social settings.

Do NOT wear this to the office. I repeat — do not wear Scandal Pour Homme to a professional setting. The caramel projection will fill the entire room and your coworkers will either love you or file a complaint. It's too loud and too sweet for anything corporate.

The Honest Downsides

The caramel can be cloying. Let's be honest — if the weather is even slightly warm, this thing turns into a caramel fog that can give people headaches. It's really a cold-weather-only fragrance, and even then, you need to go easy on the trigger. Two sprays max.

It's also kind of one-dimensional. The caramel dominates everything from start to finish. Yes, there are other notes in there, but they're playing backup in a one-man show. If you want complexity and evolution, look elsewhere.

And while it gets compliments — a lot of them, actually — the type of compliment tends to be "you smell sweet" rather than "you smell amazing." That might sound like the same thing, but there's a difference between someone finding you intriguing and someone thinking you smell like dessert.

Some people also find the presentation a bit childish. Between the packaging and the overwhelming sweetness, it can feel like a fragrance aimed at younger guys. Nothing wrong with that, but manage your expectations.

Buy or Skip?

Buy if you love sweet, bold fragrances and want something that gets noticed in social settings. Scandal Pour Homme is a compliment magnet and a conversation starter. At its price point, it's genuinely good value for what you get.

Skip if you prefer sophisticated, subtle, or complex fragrances. Also skip if you live somewhere warm — this will suffocate people in anything above 65°F.

Rating: 7/10

Fun, bold, and unapologetically sweet. Great for nights out but limited in versatility. The caramel note is either your best friend or your worst enemy.
