La Vie Est Belle Rose Extraordinaire by Lancôme Review — The Rose Flanker Nobody Expected

La Vie Est Belle Rose Extraordinaire by Lancôme

What Does Rose Extraordinaire Smell Like?

Lancôme decided to take La Vie Est Belle in a completely different direction with Rose Extraordinaire, and honestly, it's one of the bolder moves they've made with this line. Instead of the usual praline-vanilla-iris formula, they built this one around rose — and not a timid rose either.

The opening is a bright, dewy rose paired with a juicy pear note. It's fresh, a little fruity, and immediately feels more youthful and modern than most of the La Vie Est Belle family. There's a sparkling quality to it, almost like champagne mixed with roses.

As it develops, a green tea accord comes through that adds an unexpected crispness. This is where Rose Extraordinaire separates itself from other rose fragrances — it's not heavy, dark, or old-fashioned. It's light and bright while still having enough substance to feel like you're wearing an actual perfume.

The base is a soft muslin wood and white musk combo that keeps things clean and modern. There's a touch of the classic La Vie Est Belle sweetness lurking underneath, but it's subtle — like a memory of the original rather than a full callback.

Performance — Middle of the Road

Expect 5-7 hours of longevity, with moderate projection for the first couple of hours. This isn't a powerhouse — it's designed to be fresh and elegant, not a room-filler. You'll get a pleasant aura around you that people will notice if they're close, but it won't turn heads from across the room.

Summer heat actually helps this one project a bit more, making it a solid warm-weather choice.

When to Wear Rose Extraordinaire

  • Spring and summer — this was made for warm weather
  • Daytime events, brunches, garden parties
  • Office wear when you want something pretty but professional
  • Light date nights where you don't want to overpower
  • Anytime you want to smell like fresh-cut roses without smelling like grandma

The Real Downsides

  • Doesn't smell like La Vie Est Belle. If you're buying this expecting the signature LVEB DNA, you'll be confused. It's a completely different fragrance wearing a familiar name. That's not necessarily bad, but it's misleading.
  • Rose fragrances are a hard sell. A lot of younger consumers hear "rose" and immediately think old-fashioned. Even though this is a modern take, the marketing hurdle is real.
  • Nothing groundbreaking. Fresh rose + fruity top notes + clean musk is a formula that's been done many times. This does it well, but it won't shock anyone who's smelled other modern rose scents.
  • Longevity could be better. For an EDP, 5-7 hours feels a bit short. Some competing rose fragrances at this price last significantly longer.
  • Gets lost in the LVEB lineup. There are so many flankers at this point that Rose Extraordinaire, despite being good, kind of gets buried in the crowd.

Buy or Skip?

Rose Extraordinaire is a genuinely pretty fragrance that proves the La Vie Est Belle line can do more than just vanilla and praline. If you love modern, fresh rose scents and want something from a trusted house, this is worth a try. It's easy to wear, office-safe, and perfect for spring.

But if you're not specifically looking for a rose fragrance, there are more interesting options in the LVEB line. And if you ARE specifically looking for a rose fragrance, niche houses like Byredo (Rose of No Man's Land) or MFK (À la Rose) offer more complexity at a similar price point.

Rating: 6.5/10

Pleasant and well-made, but it doesn't do enough to stand out in either the rose category or the La Vie Est Belle lineup. A solid "nice" that never quite reaches "must-have."
